FOIA Request Sent to City Of Dixon Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Records on October 31, 2024

FOIA Request to City Of Dixon Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Records on October 31, 2024.

As a part of our ongoing efforts to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at NW Illinois News have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City Of Dixon Finance Department. The request was sent on October 31, 2024.

In our pursuit of transparency and accountability, we have requested specific records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. We have asked for these records in an electronic format for ease of access and analysis.

The requested information includes a list of businesses that paid sales tax to the city from January 1, 2023, to October 31, 2024. We have asked for specific fields in this list which include the business name, business type, and the amount of sales tax paid by each business during this period.

Additionally, we have also requested the total amount of sales tax that the city collected from January 1, 2023, to October 31, 2024. This information is crucial in understanding the financial dynamics within the city and its implications on local governance.

As members of the media committed to providing transparency to the public and holding public institutions accountable, we believe that access to such public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. We have therefore sought a fee waiver as media professionals for this request.

We will continue our efforts in disseminating vital information to the public and ensuring transparency in local governance. We await a positive response from the City Of Dixon Finance Department regarding our request.
