FOIA Request to City of Freeport Regarding New and Active Residential and Commercial Building Permits on October 30, 2024.
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at NW Illinois News have submitted a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140.
Our request is for records pertaining to all new residential and commercial building permits issued from January 1, 2023, till the present date. We are specifically seeking information about the type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester details, address associated with the permit, and contractor name.
In addition to this, we have also requested data regarding all currently active residential and commercial building permits along with their status. The same fields as mentioned above are required for these active permits as well.
As a media organization dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, access to these public records is essential for us in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. We believe that given our role in disseminating information to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
