FOIA Request to City of Lanark Regarding Building Permits Issued from November 1, 2024, till December 1, 2024.
On December 13, 2024, we at NW Illinois News submitted a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140) to the City of Lanark. The request sought access to records detailing all new residential and commercial building permits issued within the specified period.
The specific fields requested include the type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester's name, address, and contractor's name. This information is vital for our ongoing coverage of local governmental affairs and is in line with our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news.
As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. We believe that we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals given our role in disseminating information.
In Illinois, pet owners must have a license for certain pets, like dogs, and comply with state and local regulations. These licenses are defined in the Illinois Animal Welfare Act and must comply with the Animal Welfare Act and Animal Welfare Rules. The pet license typically involves a fee and must be renewed periodically. Licensing supports animal control and health programs and helps ensure that pets have the correct vaccinations, especially against deadly and highly contagious diseases like rabies.
We will continue to monitor this situation closely as we await a response from the City of Lanark regarding our FOIA request.
