As coal plants are being phased out, there is an increasing reliance on battery solutions to fill the energy gap. However, these solutions are not able to provide the consistent power needed for grid stability.
In response to this issue, House Minority Leader Tony McCombie has introduced a legislative bill package. This package aims to address concerns about rising energy demands surpassing current legal deadlines.
The proposed bills by Leader McCombie seek to extend deadlines that require all coal and natural gas-fired power plants to close by 2045. They also aim to delay restrictions on gas-fired facilities that are set to begin in 2030 under the Climate & Equitable Jobs Act.
McCombie emphasizes the importance of lawmakers adopting a realistic approach that accommodates current energy needs while exploring opportunities for advancing clean energy. The legislative work will continue into the new year with the 104th General Assembly.
