A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the Eswood Community Consolidated District 269 on January 28, 2025. The request was made by us at NW Illinois News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The request seeks copies of all emails and memos from the past 12 months that contain the keywords “Lucy Calkins” and “Units of Study”. As part of our journalistic duty, we aim to provide transparency and hold public institutions accountable. Access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities.
In addition, we believe that as a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140.
According to the Illinois Report Card, the average state teacher salary in 2023 was $73,916, while the state average administrative salary stood at $116,908. The average student-to-administrative ratio is reported as being 141:1, with an average student-to-teacher ratio of 17:1. Interestingly, it was found that 58% of teachers in Illinois have a master's degree or higher.
We continue to strive for transparency and accountability in all matters concerning local government affairs. This FOIA request is one step towards achieving this goal.
