On January 28, 2025, an FOIA request was submitted to the Pearl City Community Unit School District 200 in Illinois. The request, made by NW Illinois News, sought access to emails and memos from the past year containing specific keywords.
The terms "Lucy Calkins" and "Units of Study" were specified as the keywords of interest. As a media organization dedicated to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at NW Illinois News believe that access to these records is crucial for our mission.
Our role involves gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records allows us to hold public institutions accountable and provide transparency to the public. In light of our role in disseminating information, we have requested a fee waiver as a media professional.

The average student-to-administrative ratio is reported as 141:1, with an average student-to-teacher ratio of 17:1.
