State Representative Tony McCombie (IL) | Representative Tony M. McCombie (R) 89th District
House Minority Leader Tony McCombie has initiated a lawsuit addressing what he describes as extreme partisan gerrymandering in Illinois. McCombie argues that the current legislative districts are manipulated to favor the Democratic Party, effectively disenfranchising minority party voters.
"They are drawn by the political party in control and intended to entrench the Democratic Party in power and prevent voters of the minority party from electing candidates of their choice. The general election outcomes are rigged," McCombie stated.
To inform residents about these issues, a new website has been launched detailing the current map, the scope of gerrymandering, and the House Republican caucus' strategy to address it.
Alongside legal action, legislation has been proposed in the Illinois House by State Representative Ryan Spain with support from McCombie. The proposed House Joint Resolution Constitutional Amendment 05 aims to establish a Fair Map Amendment and is set to move through legislative channels.
