Ogle County Republicans Chairman Mike Koolidge has expressed that Stellantis' plan to reopen the Belvidere Assembly Plant highlights former President Donald Trump’s leadership. This, he claims, stands in stark contrast to Governor J.B. Pritzker’s perceived shortcomings in supporting Illinois workers. Koolidge made these remarks to NW Illinois News on January 27.

"Stellantis' announcement to reopen the Belvidere Assembly Plant and create 1,500 jobs for Illinoisans, many of whom live in Ogle County, reflects the instantaneous impact of Donald Trump being back in the Oval Office," said Koolidge. "Illinois workers have waited six years for Governor Pritzker to deliver results like this—and they're still waiting. President Trump's leadership has accomplished more in one week than Pritzker has in years. While Pritzker fumbles, Trump proves he's a game-changer for Illinois workers."

According to the Detroit Free Press, Stellantis has announced its intention to restart operations at the idled Belvidere Assembly Plant in Illinois. The facility is set to produce a new midsize truck within two years. Additionally, investments are planned for facilities located in Toledo, Ohio, and Kokomo, Indiana. In a letter addressed to employees, North America Chief Operating Officer Antonio Filosa attributed discussions between Stellantis Chairman John Elkann and former President Trump about enhancing U.S. auto manufacturing and jobs as influential factors in this decision. This move addresses a significant issue from the 2023 United Auto Workers (UAW) contract negotiations, with 1,500 workers expected to return to Belvidere, thereby strengthening Stellantis' manufacturing presence in the United States.

Koolidge was first elected as Chairman of the Ogle County Republican Party in 2022. According to the organization’s website, his focus includes increasing Republican voter turnout, expanding party membership, and effectively communicating the party's positions on issues important to voters in Ogle County.
