FOIA Request to Jo Daviess County IL Elections Division Regarding Information on Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at NW Illinois News have sent a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, to the Jo Daviess County IL Elections Division.
The request was for an electronic format list of all candidates running in the upcoming election. Specifically, we asked for the first, middle and last names of the candidates, the office they are running for, jurisdiction of the office and party affiliation of each candidate.
In addition to this information about each candidate's candidacy, we also requested their contact information including address, phone number and email address.
As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
We await response from Jo Daviess County IL Elections Division regarding our request and will continue striving towards providing accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
