FOIA Request to Stephenson County Il Clerk & Elections Division Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
On February 5, 2025, we at NW Illinois News sent a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to the Stephenson County Il Clerk & Elections Division. Our aim was to obtain comprehensive information about all candidates running in the upcoming election.
We requested for specific details about each candidate including their first, middle and last names, the office they are running for, jurisdiction of the office and their party affiliation. In addition to this, we also asked for contact information such as address, phone number and email address.
As a media organization committed to providing accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, access to public records is essential for us. This allows us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional. We eagerly await a response from the Stephenson County Il Clerk & Elections Division so that we can continue our work in bringing light to important local matters.
