City of Galena City Council met Jan. 27.

25C-0017 – CALL TO ORDER

Mayor Pro Tem Kieffer called the regular meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. in the Board Chambers at 101 Green Street on 27 January 2024.

25C-0018 – ROLL CALL

Upon roll call, the following members were present: Johnson, Kieffer, Tegtmeyer, Westemeier, Wienen

Absent: Renner

25C-0019 – ESTABLISHMENT OF QUORUM

Mayor Pro Tem Kieffer announced a quorum of board members present to conduct City business. 25C-0020 – PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

The Pledge was recited.

25C-0021 - REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES

25C-0022 – CITIZENS COMMENTS

None.

25C-0023 – APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF JANUARY 13, 2025

25C-0024 – APPROVAL OF SECONDARY EMPLOYMENT AS A SOFTBALL COACH FOR THE GALENA SCHOOL DISTRICT

25C-0025 – ACCEPTANCE OF DECEMBER 2024 FINANCIAL REPORT

25C-0026 – APPROVAL OF THE PURCHASE OF AN ENVIROSIGHT OUTPOST BOX FOR THE WATER AND SEWER DEPARTMENT ROVER CAMERA

Motion: Wienen moved, seconded by Westemeier, to approve Consent Agenda CA25-2. Discussion: None.

NEW BUSINESS

25C-0027 – DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION ON THE APPOINTMENT OF BRANDON BEHLKE TO THE UNEXPIRED TERM OF ALDERPERSON PAM BERNSTEIN

Motion: Westemeier moved, seconded by Johnson, to approve the appointment of Brandon Behlke to the unexpired term of Alderperson Pam Bernstein, 25C-0027.

Discussion: Tegtmeyer was pleased to have someone with experience in the community who has served on boards that is willing to step in for the interim period.

Roll Call: AYES: Kieffer, Tegtmeyer, Westemeier, Johnson, Wienen NAYS: None

25C-0028 – DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION ON SWIMMING POOL WAGES, RATES, AND SCHEDULE FOR 2025

Motion: Tegtmeyer moved, seconded by Wienen, to approve swimming pool wages, rates and schedule for 2025, 25C-0028.

Discussion: Tegtmeyer appreciated the efforts to bring people back on board. She suggested expanding temporary hours through Labor Day, even if those hours are shortened or limited to weekends. Westemeier stated he was happy to see a more experienced staff this year.

25C-0029 – DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION ON A CONTRACT FOR EMERGENCY REPAIRS TO THE DEWEY AVENUE BRIDGE

Motion: Westemeier moved, seconded by Tegtmeyer, to approve a contract with Louie’s Trenching Service in the amount of $46,360 for emergency repairs to the Dewey Avenue bridge, 25C-0029.

25C-0030 – U.S. WATER MONTHLY WATER AND SEWER OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE REPORT

Motion: Wienen moved, seconded by Tegtmeyer to table the U.S. Water monthly water and sewer operations and maintenance report, 25C-0030.

Motion: Wienen moved, seconded by Johnson, to approve the Warrants as presented, 25C 0031.

25C-0032 – ALDERPERSONS’ COMMENTS

Comprehensive Plan Committee – Tegtmeyer stated she would like to request a report or presentation from the Comprehensive Plan Committee. She would like to see where they are at with the Comprehensive Plan.

Absence – Johnson advised she would not be at the next meeting.

Water Breaks – Johnson stated she appreciates the waterworks guys who were out in the cold getting the water back working.

25C-0034 – MAYOR’S REPORT

No report.

25C-0035 – ADJOURNMENT

Motion: Wienen moved, seconded by Westemeier, to adjourn.
