House Republicans in Illinois have expressed their concerns over public safety and legislative priorities at a recent press conference held at the Capitol. They criticized the Democratic majority for prioritizing criminal justice reforms over public safety. Republican leaders, including Patrick Windhorst, John Cabello, and Dennis Tipsword, highlighted their legislative proposals aimed at ensuring family safety and law enforcement support.

In addition to public safety, House Republicans addressed property tax relief efforts. Dan Ugaste, Joe Sosnowski, and Tom Weber presented a package of bills designed to alleviate the high property taxes that have led residents to move to states with more favorable tax environments. Representative Ugaste emphasized the need for property tax relief by stating: “High property taxes are crushing Illinois families.”

The proposed legislation includes measures such as HB 0009 for property tax relief and HB 4010 for property tax extensions. These initiatives aim to reduce financial burdens on working families and seniors.

The Republicans also criticized recent Democrat-backed bills related to immigration policies and healthcare. Assistant Republican Leader C.D. Davidsmeyer voiced concerns about House Bill 2706 restricting local law enforcement's cooperation with federal immigration authorities and House Bill 3780 providing universal healthcare regardless of immigration status.

Davidsmeyer accused Democrats of attempting another progressive income tax increase through SJRCA 4, which he claims was previously rejected by voters in 2020: “Illinois voters already defeated this tax hike in 2020.”

Representative Weber criticized Governor JB Pritzker’s budget proposal for lacking meaningful reform to address high property taxes: “Years of reckless spending...have led the majority party to endlessly drive up property taxes.”

Republicans remain committed to addressing issues like public safety, taxation, and education rights across all counties in Illinois. They encourage constituents to participate in upcoming traveling office hours for discussions on state-related matters.
