Illinois House Minority Leader Tony McCombie has issued a statement in response to Governor JB Pritzker’s recent comments, which McCombie describes as crossing a "dangerous line." Pritzker, in July, declared that “violence is never the answer in our democracy.” However, McCombie takes issue with Pritzker's latest statements, where he purportedly calls for “mass disruption,” claims Republicans “cannot know a moment of peace,” and urges Americans to “become street fighters.”

McCombie criticized Pritzker by stating, “These are not the words of a unifier—they are the words of someone willing to trade principle for power.” She emphasized the significance of maintaining civility in political discourse and expressed concern about the impact of such rhetoric on the democratic process.

"In a time when political violence has already taken a terrible toll on this country, such inflammatory language is reckless, irresponsible and just dangerous," McCombie stated. She warned against the normalization of such "dangerous escalation" and highlighted the risk of eroding democratic foundations.

The statement underscores the ongoing tension between political figures in Illinois, as McCombie calls for a more measured approach in political discourse.
