Stephenson County taxpayers paid approximately $1.6 million in Countywide Sales Tax in 2023, according to Illinois tax records.

This figure marks a noticeable increase over the previous year, when Countywide Sales Tax collection stood at approximately $1.5 million.

The Countywide Sales Tax, a crucial revenue stream, is primarily allocated for county governments' use.

As of 2021, Illinois was the highest taxed state in the US. A study from Wallet Hub found Illinois taxes were 39.83% higher than the national average.
