As former President Donald J. Trump marks his first 100 days back in office, Illinois State Senator Andrew Chesney (R-Freeport) has highlighted several actions by the President that he claims have positively impacted the state of Illinois.
“President Trump has done more to improve the lives of everyday Americans and Illinoisans than any modern president,” stated Senator Chesney. He commended actions taken by Trump, which he believes confront certain ideologies and restore a sense of balance to government.
Senator Chesney pointed to the administration's approach to border security, citing a reported 95% reduction in illegal border crossings, which he claims has favored Illinois taxpayers and communities. He stated, “The Trump administration’s border security measures are not only securing the southern border but are also making Illinois safer.”
Chesney also praised Trump's executive order that bans Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policies in federally funded schools, noting that some Illinois educational institutions are adjusting to these changes. He mentioned, “The community college in my district is already phasing out DEI programs, and the response from students and families has been overwhelmingly supportive.”
In addition, Trump's executive order preventing biological males from participating in women’s sports and using women’s locker rooms has been another important measure, according to Chesney. He explained, “This is about fairness, safety, and protecting the rights of girls and women.”
Chesney expressed hope in the developments within the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), noting efforts to minimize waste and fraud in federal agencies. These measures are aimed at enhancing government operations and directing financial resources to aid vulnerable populations. He also mentioned the tariffs which prompt American businesses to reconsider their supply chains, potentially bringing jobs back to the United States and benefiting local economies, including Illinois.
Senator Chesney concluded with praise for President Trump’s leadership, noting, “These policies are already producing real results in Illinois.” He believes that this marks a shift from previous leadership, focusing on family-centric policies and promoting growth in the state and country.
