Carroll County taxpayers ranked 84th in total sales taxes paid per county in 2023, according to Illinois tax records.

In total, residents paid $984,796 in sales taxes during 2023.

The county ranked 82nd in the Prairie State the year before, with $982,185 spent in sales taxes.

The largest share of sales taxes paid by Carroll County residents in 2023 came from the Countywide Sales Tax.

The Countywide Sales Tax, a crucial revenue stream, is primarily allocated for county governments' use.

As of 2021, Illinois was the highest taxed state in the US. A study from Wallet Hub found Illinois taxes were 39.83% higher than the national average.
