City of Lanark City Council met April 1.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

MEETING CALLED TO ORDER/ROLL CALL-Lanark City Council met in regular session at the Lanark City Hall at 7 p.m. Roll call taken by Marilyn Heller, City Clerk, showed Alderpersons present were Brad Knutti, Ethan Lartz, Justin Rausch, Haley Grim and Lynn Collins. Mayor Mark Macomber was present and presiding.

Others present were: Nick Mosca, Dan Kruse, Maintenance Manager Jason Alvarado, Clerk Marilyn Heller, Treasurer Deb Throop, and Chief Troy Randall.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE-was led by Clerk Marilyn Heller.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES-MOTION-was made by Alderperson Haley Grim and seconded by Alderperson Justin Rausch to accept the minutes of the March 18, 2025 meeting as presented. Motion carried by 6 aye votes. Aye votes: Alderpersons Lynn Collins, Mark Macomber, Ethan Lartz, Justin Rausch, Haley Grim, and Brad Knutti.

PUBLIC COMMENTS- Dan Kruse addressed the Council with a complaint regarding a Lanark Police Officer who had pulled over his daughter while she was in route to assist with a cow in labor. He shared a photo of the deceased calves as part of his concern. The Council advised Mr. Kruse to submit a formal written complaint to the City Clerk’s office. Once received, a meeting with the Mayor and City Attorney will be scheduled to further address the matter.

DELINQUANT UTILITIES – POSSIBLE ACTION – Clerk presented the shut off list, showing 6 letters sent this month and 4 payments plans. Alderperson Ethan asked for a list of all properties with water shut off currently. No Action Taken.

MULTIUSER METERS – POSSIBLE ACTION – Alderperson Brad Knutti discussed with clerk, to implement charging additional charges per each unit of $17 for water, $18 for sewer, CIP and garbage. Alderperson Brad will work on getting this written up for approval for next meeting. Tabled

ABANDON / DELINQUANT PROPERTIES – POSSIBLE ATION –Tabled

STANDING COMMITTEES AND BOARDS-POSSIBLE ACTION- Streets and Property Committee – meeting needed to discuss the core sample results from Westside Ave. regarding the chip and seal project. Date to come.

REPORTS-EMPLOYEES, ATTORNEY, CLERK, TREASURER, ALDERPERSONS AND MAYOR- Chief Troy Randall - Submitted for a $7500 grant for body cameras. Officer Zach is interested in working parttime for Shannon’s department and he has gotten his city phone. Clerk Marilyn – Rep. Tony McCombie has a mobile office on April 1 at the Heritage Center. She sent out 7 reminders for Statement of Economic Interest still due by May 1. City mass texting now had 263 people signed up. Liquor and gaming license renewals were sent out. The 457b went live and Talia with Edward Jones will here at city hall to help employees enroll on Monday. PTO cash outs will be included in next week’s payroll. Lastly, representatives from the Fire Department visited yesterday to request a city donation for an auction taking place at this weekend’s fish fry, with proceeds benefiting the two injured firefighters. The Council agreed that the request will need to be added to the agenda for consideration at the next meeting. Alderperson Lynn Collins – gave her last update on the council of Jasper the cat. Alderperson Justin Rausch – Asked about the city barricade on Daehler’s property? Maintenance Manager and Mayor Mark will look into. Alderperson Ethan Lartz – provided a brief summary of last month’s Lanark Club meeting and announced that the Club will be hosting an ice cream social on June 1st as part of its efforts to attract new members. He also held a Community Projects Committee meeting and presented a short report on its discussions. Alderperson Brad Knutti – Thanked Haley and Lynn for their time on the council. Mayor Mark Macomber – Also, Thanked Haley and Lynn for their work on the council.

ADJOURNMENT-MOTION-was made by Alderperson Brad Knutti and seconded by Alderperson Mark Macomber to adjourn at 7:52 p.m. Motion carried by 6 voiced aye votes.
