In a recent video interview, House Minority Leader Tony McCombie reflected on her visit to Israel, coinciding with Yom Ha’atzmaut, the national day commemorating Israel’s Declaration of Independence. The trip took place late last year as part of a Midwest delegation invited by the State of Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The visit aimed to foster relationships with Israeli officials and community groups, exploring how Illinois could enhance its partnership with Israel. McCombie remarked on her experience meeting Israelis following the October 7th terrorist attack, which she said reinforced her commitment to supporting Israel's pursuit of justice and security.

“Meeting the people of Israel after the October 7th terrorist attack strengthened my resolve to support our ally as they continue to work toward justice and greater security for their people,” stated McCombie.

During her stay in Israel, McCombie was moved by stories like that of Oded Lifshitz—a peace activist and Kibbutz leader who was kidnapped and murdered by Hamas terrorists in February. She met his family during her visit.

“It was an honor to meet the family of Oded Lifshitz while in Israel. The ongoing conflict has taken too many lives—every hostage is a reminder of just how much is at stake. May he and all of the victims rest in peace,” McCombie expressed.

McCombie emphasized gaining first-hand knowledge about Illinois' assets and industries through this trip. She highlighted it as an opportunity for learning how Illinois can be a strong partner for growth.

Before this delegation trip, McCombie had been vocal about her support for Israel within the Illinois House of Representatives. She sponsored HR55, a resolution honoring victims of the October 7th, 2023 terrorist attack.

Through advocacy efforts both in public statements and legislative actions, McCombie continues to express her support for Israel.
