House Republican Leader Tony McCombie addressed participants at the Illinois Gun Owner Lobby Day (IGOLD), expressing support for lawful gun owners. During his speech, McCombie emphasized the importance of defending Second Amendment rights and criticized certain policy decisions.
McCombie acknowledged the efforts of advocates rallying at the Capitol: “Poor policy decisions have put us in the position we’re in today,” he stated. He reiterated his caucus's commitment to protecting gun owners' rights, asserting that “the second amendment is not second class to any other right.”
He also highlighted perceived neglect by Democrats regarding these rights: “It is all too easy for Democrats to neglect us, to infringe in our rights. But we are here today to stand with you, to fight with you, and to show them: that rightful gun owners have a voice in this state.”
