House Minority Leader Tony McCombie discussed Governor JB Pritzker’s approach to redistricting in a recent interview with WQAD. McCombie raised concerns about the governor’s stance, saying that while he is advocating for fairer district maps, Illinois continues to have what she described as the “worst gerrymandered map in the nation.”

McCombie, a Republican who was elected to the Illinois State House in 2023 representing the 89th District and replacing Andrew Chesney, has frequently addressed issues of redistricting and electoral fairness.

“While promoting the need for a fair map, the Governor has seemingly forgotten that his own state has the worst gerrymandered map in the nation,” McCombie said during her remarks.

Illinois’ legislative maps have been a point of contention among lawmakers and advocacy groups, who argue that current boundaries do not reflect genuine community representation. The debate continues as state officials consider possible reforms.
