The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) will introduce a new notification system to deliver chronic wasting disease (CWD) test results directly to deer hunters. The system is set to begin with the 2025-2026 deer season.
Hunters who wish to use the new system must provide a mobile phone number with their sample and have an email address connected to their ExploreMoreIL account. Notifications will be sent by text and email. Hunters who receive a positive result will also get a link to a map so they can confirm the location where the deer was harvested.
Test results will continue to be available online for all hunters. If a deer tests positive and the hunter has not confirmed their township range, IDNR staff will follow up. Not verifying this information could make hunters ineligible for free replacement tags in the following season.
Illinois House Minority Leader Tony McCombie encouraged local residents to send any questions about this update to [email protected]. She also directed those seeking more information about CWD management to visit the state’s website: Chronic Wasting Disease Management.
McCombie, a Republican, began representing Illinois' 89th House District in 2023 after being elected to succeed Andrew Chesney.
