The calls in Byron included 54 fires - 25 structure fires, seven vehicle fires and 21 other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.
In all, the department saw $427,200 in fire loss - or about $7,911 per fire.
The department also received 69 false calls, including two malicious calls and 67 other false calls.
The calls resulted in two civilian fire-related deaths.
The Byron FPD Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 12 active employees and six retired or inactive employees, was $28,371 in debt as of August 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $525 for every fire in 2016.
