Rock Falls FD responds to 93 fires in 2017

Rock Falls Fire Department responded to 179 calls in 2017 - 0.6 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Rock Falls included 93 fires - 51 structure fires, 11 vehicle fires and 31 other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $506,367 in fire loss - or about $5,445 per fire.

The department also received 85 false calls, including two malicious calls and 83 other false calls.

The calls resulted in five civilian fire-related injuries and one civilian fire-related death. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents.

The Rock Falls Fire Department had an annual budget of $135,947 in 2017.

The Rock Falls Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 14 active employees and 19 retired or inactive employees, was $459,678 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $6,129 for every fire in 2016.
