The price of local government in 2017: Village of Nelson

The Village of Nelson budget was $34,272 for its 2017 fiscal year, or $145 per household.

That's a decrease of 3.4 percent from 2016, when the village spent $35,490, or $150 per household.

Nelson has 237 households and a population of 170.

Since 2001, the Village of Nelson budget has fallen by 41.8 percent, from $58,859. The village population has grown 4.3 percent over the same period, from 163.

Salaries accounted for 25.4 percent of village spending in 2017. Nelson property taxpayers paid $8,714 for nine part-time employees, or an average of $968 each, before their health care benefits and taxpayer-funded pension contributions.
