Byron Forest Preserve District issued the following announcement on April 1.
Our quarry is a great place for fossil hunting! Once or twice a year we open it up to the public, and often find very nice specimens from Ordovician sediments dating back over 450 million years. We'll have staff and guides to help you identify your finds. Bring a bucket and take home whatever you can carry. Free event for the entire family.
