City of Galena issued the following announcement on April 8.
Starting April 9, 2019, the city will be replacing sidewalks and crosswalks on Main and Commerce Street. The attached plan shows the location of the areas to be replaced. Louie’s Trenching Service will be completing the work. The project duration is estimated at 10-12 weeks with completion by June 28.
The plan is to remove deteriorated exposed aggregate sidewalk and replace it with slightly tinted broom-finish concrete to match the existing sidewalk color. Brick pavers in the same areas will be removed and replaced with concrete. Some disruption to store access will occur during the work, but we expect to minimize the disruption by constructing one block at a time and utilizing prefabricated walkways for customers to reach front doors while the sidewalk is undergoing replacement.
