City of Morrison City Council met May 28. 

Here is the minutes as provided by the council:

          The Morrison City Council met in Regular Session on May 28, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. in the Whiteside County Board Room, 400 North Cherry Street, Morrison, IL. Mayor Everett Pannier called the meeting to order. City Clerk Melanie Schroeder recorded the minutes.


          Aldermen present on roll call were: Kevin Bruckner, Jr., Arlyn Deets, Dale Eizenga, Ken Mahaffey, Harvey Zuidema, Mick Welding, Josh West and Vern Tervelt.

          There was no public comment.

          Mayor Pannier removed the Request for Parade Permit for the Memorial Day Parade, as the parade was rained out and cancelled.

          Alderman Deets moved to approve the May 13, 2019 Regular Session Minutes; Bills Payable , April 2019 Treasurers’ Report, and Authorizing Kathe Selburg as signatory on Sports Complex Checking Account, seconded by Alderman Tervelt. On a roll call vote of 8 ayes (Zuidema, Welding, West, Tervelt, Bruckner, Deets, Eizenga, Mahaffey) and 0 nays, the motion carried.

          Items for Consideration & Possible Action:

1) Alderman Eizenga moved to approve the Request for Street Closure from Brick Block Pub for a Summer Bash to be held on June 15, 2019, as amended with times from 3 p.m. to Midnight, seconded by Alderman Welding. On a roll call vote of 8 ayes (West, Tervelt, Bruckner, Deets, Eizenga, Mahaffey, Zuidema, Welding) and 0 nays, the motion carried.

2) Following much discussion regarding the zoning classifications of the properties at 301 and 303 West Lincolnway, council decided to not to take further action at this time and to allow the Special Use application to proceed with the Planning/Zoning Commission, as directed at the April 8, 2019 Council meeting.

          Executive Session:

1) Pursuant to 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(5), Alderman Mahaffey moved to enter Executive Session to discuss the purchase or lease of real property, seconded by Alderman Zuidema. On a roll call vote of 8 ayes (Eizenga, Mahaffey, Zuidema, Mahaffey, West, Tervelt, Bruckner, Deets) and 0 nays, the motion carried. Executive Session began at 8:00 p.m.

2) Regular session resumed at 8:17 p.m.

          Action from Executive Session

1) Alderman Tervelt moved to approve to direct the city attorney to proceed with the purchase of Township property, seconded by Alderman Deets. On a roll call vote of 8 ayes (Tervelt, Bruckner, Deets, Eizenga, Mahaffey, Zuidema, Welding, West) and 0 nays, the motion carried.

          Being no further business, Alderman Welding moved to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Alderman Mahaffey. On a voice vote, the motion carried.

Meeting adjourned at 8:19 p.m.
