City of Sterling issued the following announcement on Feb. 15.
The Sterling Police Department is investigating a single vehicle accident that occurred on Thursday, 2/13/20, at about 6:45 am. The investigation indicated that a vehicle left the roadway on Lynn Blvd. and struck an LED stop sign located on the northeast corner of 6th Ave at E. Lynn Blvd. The sign was damaged beyond repair and the vehicle involved left the scene. Anyone with information please contact the police department at 815-632-6640, or if you wish to remain anonymous call the Whiteside County Crimestoppers at 815-625-7867. The department would like the operator of the vehicle to know that it is not too late to come forward and make an accident report, and that failing to do so could be considered a criminal offense.
