Freeport Community Foundation hands out $86,258 in grants to local nonprofits

Thirteen area nonprofit organizations recently received awards totaling a combined $86,258 in grants from the Freeport Community Foundation.

The grants given out included $20,000 to the Jo Daviess Conservation Foundation, $15,000 to the Timber Lake Playhouse, $10,000 to Northern Illinois Food Bank, $6,992 to the Boys and Girls Club of Freeport and Stephenson County, $6,579 to German Valley Fire Police Department, $5,000 to the Senior Resource Center, $5,000 to Farmworker and Landscaper Advocacy, $4,325 to United Way of Northwest Illinois, $3,894 to the Workshop, $3,300 to Winneshiek Playhouse, $3,000 to Blackhawk Area Council of Boy Scouts, and $1,500 to Cedarville Area Historical Society.

All funding for the grants came from the Community Needs/Marvin Unrestricted Fund and the Craig Wilson Trust, according to the Journal Standard. Compeer Financial contributed $7,500 toward the grant funding, and Citizens State Bank contributed $5,000
