Byron Forest Preserve District issued the following announcement on May. 19.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Matt Henkel. If you didn’t know Matt, you truly missed out. He was a jack of all trades, one of the most positive and fun people we knew, a great friend, a great coworker and overall an awesome guy.
Matt was our Superintendent & General Manager here at PrairieView Golf Club and was with us for 19 years. He made tremendous updates and changes to our course, always ensuring it was in top-notch shape. He had a huge hand in our newest facility, PrairieFire Golf & Grill and was always researching, dreaming and coming up with new ways to improve our facilities for all to enjoy.
We have no words for his loss and we will always remember the great guy he was and the impact he had here at BFPD, PV, PF and on our entire community. His wife, three kids and family are in our thoughts and prayers.
