Following the passage of the FY25 budget, State Representative Brad Fritts (R-Dixon) expressed his concerns regarding the $53.1 billion allocation.
“I am truly disappointed by the staggering $53.1 billion FY25 budget,” said Rep. Fritts. “This is the largest budget in the history of the State of Illinois that prioritizes partisanship over hard-working families. The corrupt nature in which this budget was drawn and enacted after 2:30 in the morning is a true testament that one-party rule is unacceptable."
Fritts highlighted specific issues within the budget, including new tax increases. “This budget includes $1 billion in new taxes for Illinoisans. Raising taxes year after year when our tax burden is already one of the highest in the nation is unsustainable. This is one of the root causes of the mass exodus of families and businesses seeking economic prosperity elsewhere in our country.”
He also criticized allocations within the budget, stating, “The priorities of the current administration are so backward that they will spend $1 billion on non-citizens before providing hardworking taxpayers with economic relief. Our Illinois taxpayers and families are suffocating. Raising taxes in order to cover a self-made migrant crisis is the epitome of poor public policy."
Rep. Fritts assured his constituents that he would continue to advocate for fiscal responsibility. “To the residents of the 74th District, I promise to continue advocating every day I serve for a fiscally responsible budget that finally puts Illinoisans first. We must work together to keep our majority party in check by insisting on a voice at the table. Together we can put Illinois on a path towards fiscal sustainability when we drop partisanship and work for the people.”
