The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) will host a telephone town hall meeting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 15, to discuss proposed improvements for Illinois Route 2 in Ogle and Winnebago counties. To register for the event, individuals can visit bit.ly/registerillinois2.

IDOT is finalizing a study that examines transportation needs and solutions for a 10.5-mile stretch of Illinois Route 2 from Illinois Route 72 in Byron to Beltline Road south of Rockford. The project aims to create a safer and more accessible corridor by addressing geometric deficiencies and roadside hazards, enhancing adjacent recreational facilities, and protecting environmental and scenic values along the route.

As part of the study process, IDOT seeks public input to better understand how the project may affect community and environmental resources along the corridor.

Residents can participate in the town hall meeting via landline or mobile phone without needing to call in; instead, the project team will directly contact participants on the night of the meeting. The format will resemble a live talk radio show where participants can listen, ask questions, share concerns, and participate in live polling.

Proposed improvements include additional shoulders, bicycle and pedestrian facilities where appropriate, and extra passing lanes. A construction date has not yet been determined.

More information is available on the project website at http://idot.click/n34.
