A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Byron City Council in Illinois on October 15, 2024. The request was made by us at NW Illinois News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The request specifically sought information about all current council members. The desired details included each member's name, title, year of appointment, term length (2 or 4 years), and term expiration date.
As a news organization, we rely heavily on access to public records to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. In light of our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
We await the Byron City Council's response to our request and will continue our mission of providing comprehensive news coverage for the residents of Northwest Illinois.
