A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Rochelle City Council in Illinois on October 15, 2024. The request was made by NW Illinois News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The FOIA request seeks information about the city council members. Specifically, it asks for a list of all council members with the following details: their names, titles, years appointed, term lengths (2 or 4 years), and term expiry dates.
As a media organization, we at NW Illinois News are involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals under the provisions of the Illinois Freedom of Information Act.
