A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Fulton City Council on October 15, 2024. The request was made by us at NW Illinois News, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
In our pursuit of transparency and accountability in public institutions, we requested specific records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. We asked for these records in an electronic format for ease of access and dissemination.
The information we sought pertains to all current council members. We asked for the following details about each member:
- Name
- Title
- Year Appointed
- Term Length (2 or 4 years)
- Term Expiry Date
As a media organization, we believe in the importance of open access to public records. This information is vital for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
We have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional due to our role in gathering and reporting news to the public. We are currently awaiting a response from the Fulton City Council regarding this request.
