FOIA Request to City of Byron Regarding Unpaid Parking Violations on October 28, 2024.
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at NW Illinois News have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City of Byron. The request was made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, and asked for a list of all parking violations currently unpaid in the city.
The requested information includes the name of the offender, their address, the amount due for each violation, the date when each violation occurred, and the total amount due. We have asked that this information be provided in an electronic format for ease of analysis and reporting.
Access to public records is crucial for us at NW Illinois News as it allows us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
