FOIA Request to Lanark City Council Regarding Comprehensive List of Council Members on October 15, 2024.
In a bid to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at NW Illinois News have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Lanark City Council. The request was made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140.
Our aim is to obtain a list of all council members serving in the Lanark City Council. The details requested include each member's name, title, year they were appointed, their term length (2 or 4 years), and when their term expires.
As a media organization committed to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. We believe that as media professionals involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver for this request.
