FOIA Request to Lee County Sheriff's Department Regarding Immigration Detainer Records Issued by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency on January 29, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at NW Illinois News have submitted a request for records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. The request was sent to the Lee County Sheriff's Department in Illinois on January 29, 2025.
The specific documents requested are those showing persons committed to county jails within Lee County who have had an Immigration Detainer issued against them by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency since January 29, 2024.
As a media organization, we believe that access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
