State Senator Li Arellano, Jr. has commented on the Department of Justice's (DOJ) decision to investigate the Mabley Developmental Center. The statement was released following the DOJ's announcement of inquiries into this center and others within the state.
"I am aware of the DOJ’s investigations into the Mabley Developmental Center, as well as other centers across our state. I have also had the recent opportunity to hear concerns from involved family members and citizens, and those conversations will continue," said Arellano.
He expressed hope that the federal investigation would highlight issues and lead to effective solutions that would help both the staff and residents of the centers. "My hope is that through the federal investigation, issues will be brought to light and real solutions will be put in place to benefit both the staff and the resident population," he stated.
Arellano added that he would push for funding to support the caretaking and operational needs of the developmentally disabled community as the statehouse enters budget negotiations.
"The residents at Mabley, their families, and caretakers deserve the best when it comes to caring for our state’s most vulnerable residents," Arellano remarked. "I will be monitoring this situation closely as I advocate for positive change for this community."
