The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced that construction will commence on the U.S. 20 and Barge Terminal Road intersection in East Dubuque on Monday, March 31, weather permitting. This project covers a 1.5-mile section from Frentress Lake Road to just east of Barge Terminal Road.

The project's primary goal is to enhance safety at this intersection, which serves as a connector to a 100-acre logistics park. House Minority Leader Tony McCombie has advised local residents to exercise caution while driving through the work zone. The construction will include the installation of acceleration and deceleration lanes in both directions of U.S. 20. Moreover, for westbound U.S. 20, an island will be constructed to help drivers concentrate on oncoming traffic in a single direction instead of dealing with all four lanes when entering or exiting Barge Terminal Road.

Furthermore, residents should note the elimination of the left turn lane for eastbound U.S. 20 at Barge Terminal Road. Access to the westbound U.S. 20 Frontage Road and Kramer Road will be limited to westbound traffic. Also, a new left turn lane will be added to eastbound U.S. 20 at Frentress Lake Road to facilitate entry to the frontage road.

The construction is projected to be completed by November this year.

Leader McCombie has issued a notice urging residents to anticipate delays, seek alternative routes when feasible, allow extra travel time, and be prepared to slow down and stop while navigating the work zone.
