House Minority Leader Tony McCombie has successfully advanced two legislative measures aimed at addressing concerns over the use of sharpshooting to manage Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) in deer populations. After unanimous approval by the Senate, these bills now await Governor JB Pritzker's decision.

"Northern Illinois residents were loud and clear: they do not agree with the use of agency sharpshooting to test the deer population," McCombie stated. "I am pleased these measures, inspired by the significant input from my constituents, passed unanimously in both chambers and I urge the Governor to sign them into law."

The issue traces back to 2002 when CWD was first detected in a Boone County deer. Since then, state management efforts have affected local communities within McCombie's 89th Legislative District. In response, McCombie sought public feedback through surveys and community outreach, leading to the introduction of her legislative package earlier this year.
