Governor J.B. Pritzker has announced his intention to run for a third term in office. Illinois does not impose term limits on governors, making Pritzker the first to seek a third term since the 1980s. First elected in 2018, he has served as governor since 2019. During his tenure, state spending has increased by nearly $15 billion, representing an approximate 40% rise over six and a half years. Under Governor Pritzker's administration, Illinois is noted for having one of the highest tax burdens in the nation, high unemployment rates in the Midwest, significant levels of outmigration in the region, and substantial funding directed towards illegal immigrants.

In Genoa, Senator Andrew Chesney co-hosted a successful IPASS on Demand event with Mayor Jonathan Brust. The event attracted over 175 people during its four-hour duration. These events are designed to help motorists transition from plastic IPASS transponders to new sticker technology efficiently.

Senator Chesney is also promoting his Summer Reading Program for students entering first through sixth grade this fall. Participants are encouraged to read eight books over the summer, with books exceeding 200 pages counting as two books. Completed reading forms must be submitted by August 13, 2025, to Senator Chesney's office at 50 West Douglas Street, Suite 1001, Freeport, IL 61032. Successful participants will receive a certificate from the Illinois Senate and an invitation to an ice cream party.

Additionally, Senator Chesney visited Heritage Woods of Freeport last week where he provided a legislative update and engaged with residents on important issues.
